20 Things To Do Before Turning 20!

Hello my snowflakes! Welcome to yet another blog post in the new year! It’s so crazy to me how quickly the time has passed. I feel like I was just starting middle school but now I’m a whole sophomore in college. I was talking to my friends the other day about how its crazy that one second we’re kids playing in the playground and then all of a sudden we’re adults with real life issues! And then it hit me. Dude, you’re going to be 20 years old in a couple of months, where has your life gone? Yeah I’ve made wonderful friends and have so many accomplishment under my belt, but have I actually lived and learned?

I am going to be 20, two entire decades old! And like so many of you out there, I want my twenties to be the best years of my life. But, in order for that to happen, I need to start it off right! There are so many things I want to do before saying goodbye to my teen years. Things that will make my twenties a million times better.

20 Before 20!

Below is a list of 20 things to accomplish before you turn 20! I have a variety of things ranging from fun activities to real life adulting necessities. Now, I turn 20 in 4 months which means that I don’t really have that much time to strategically get all of this done. However, I will get everything done even if it’s just starting it out. So, without further ado, let’s begin!

Start investing

There are so many ways to make bank that don’t require a college degree. And one of them is investing. I’m going to be writing a separate blogpost but it’s super important to invest in your twenties because you can use that money to retire, invest more, or even live the life you’ve always imagined.

Start saving

This is self explanatory but it’s super important to save your money. You never know when you’ll need it. You can save for an emergency, to make a big purchase, or to invest into stocks or property. Whatever the case may be, get in the habit of putting away money each paycheck you get.

Learn a new language

Languages are extremely beautiful and I plan on learning as many as I can. Since I turn 20 in 4 months my primary goal with this task will be to start the process of learning the language. For this one I’ve chosen ASL because it’s something I’ve always wanted to learn and I can already say certain things in ASL. By my 20th birthday I want to be able to at least say “Hello, my name is Tathy. How are you doing today?”

Go on a road trip with friends

Going on road trips is so much fun! I grew up loving the road and driving long distances but I always did it with my parents. I think the only time I actually drove long distances with friends was during school sanctioned events. There was one time last November where I drove with my best friend to Atlantic City for a concert but I want to go on so many more. My goal with this task is to actually plan out an entire road trip where we actually plan the snacks, playlists, activities, the whole lot!

Develop a consistent healthy lifestyle

I am about to be 20 which means that I need to start taking my health more seriously. And when I say a consistent healthy lifestyle I’m talking mentality, food choices, environment, and physical activities. My main goal with this is to remain healthy enough to lost body fat and rid my life of any and all negativity. In order to do this, I plan on doing research for the best foods to eat, workouts to do, and working harder on strengthening my mind and productivity.

Learn how to cook for yourself

Now I love take out as much as the other guy but there comes a time where you just want a nice home cooked meal, especially in college. I cannot tell you how many times I ate ramen last semester, and not my fancy ramen that I dedicate time to make, I’m talking 1 minute Keurig ramen. It didn’t taste as bad as it sounds but it’d be great to cook a nice meal once in a while. What I want to do with this task is cook one meal a month by myself. Whether it’s on the weekend or right after class, I want to start cooking more and learning new recipes.

Make a five year plan

Your twenties are one of the most important years of your life! Which is why it’s so important to establish a five year plan. Ask yourself where do you want to be in five years? What do you want to accomplish by then? Visualize yourself five years from now and write it all down. They say that in order to make your ideas and dreams a reality you have to write them within 2 days. So sit down by yourself during the weekend and just write it out till you’re 100% satisfied.

Develop new hobbies

Imagine going into your twenties without things that excite you? I could never. Which is why it’s time to establish hobbies. You can google some hobbies you can do at home or somewhere else and try a variety of them until you find one that you really like to do. Boom, now you’re going into your twenties with more abundance.

Start a side hustle

Be a boss babe before you even hit 20! There are so many side hustles out there to help you make a little extra cash here and there. So why not start one? Everyone loves money and everyone needs money. It can be the simplest thing such as walking dogs in your neighborhood. Not only are you walking adorable pups but you’re also getting in a workout AND making money. See? FUN!

Go to a concert

My first concert ever was a Romeo Santos concert and he brought Aventura out. I was so happy. But that was in 8th grade and I am now a sophomore in college. When I made this list it was sometime in October so I’ve already accomplished this task. But dude, seriously, GO TO A CONCERT. It’s so fun and such a great way to relax.

Accomplish something you’ve always wanted to do

What better time to get something done than in your teens? It can be even the smallest thing, just get it done! I have an idea of the thing I want to accomplish but I won’t reveal it just yet. But try to think of something you’ve always wanted to do whether it’s going on a hike, drawing a picture. Do something!

Have a photoshoot in the city

I am the worst at taking pictures but I want to change that. And what better way of doing that than to have a photoshoot in the city? That’s it.

Attend a Broadway show

I love acting and theatre. It was actually one of my dreams to be on Broadway when I was younger but I gave up acting in high school. I never got to attend a Broadway show but I absolutely love everything that comes with preparing and performing a show. I’ve always watched youtube videos and have been obsessed with Wicked, Kinky Boots, Chicago, and Newsies. Fun fact: I starred in my schools production of Newsies in 8th grade. So within the 4 months I have left of being 19 I want to go to my first broadway show.

Get affiliated with a charity

It’s so important to give back to your community and those across the globe. Which is why I want to start donating more to local charities and organizations. I already have one in mind which I will be speaking about another day but I’ll tell you this: it’s so much easier to donate when you’re actually passionate about what you’re donating to. So if you love fashion, try donating to an organization that helps dress homeless women for job interviews. If you love children, try donating to your local boys and girls club. There’s so many things out there, you just have to find what you’re passionate about.

Write a letter to your future 30 year old self

One thing I wish I would’ve done was write a letter to my future self. They made us write one in high school but my school really had it out for me because out of everyone, even those who left, they only seemed to lose mine. FAKE. But anyways, writing a letter to your future self is so much fun because you get to see where you were previously and what dreams you had in the past and compare them to your life now. Also, there are so many life lessons within a letter. The day you actually open it and read it could be one of the most terrible days of your life, everything is going wrong and all of a sudden, here’s this letter telling you exactly what to do.

Establish good credit

I know you’re already planning on moving out and having your dream apartment with your dream car and omg you’re so excited. But sis, how are you gonna get them with a terrible credit score?? WE ARE NOT GOING INTO OUR TWENTIES WITHOUT CREDIT OR A BAD CREDIT SCORE. It’s time to get our lives together and establish habits that will benefit us in the long run. And to my people out there who don’t have a license yet…. GET ON THAT!

Write every single day

I have four months left. Four months to live it up and do amazing things. Which is why I want to document everything so I can look back at it years from now and see how far I’ve come.

Take yourself on dates

Being alone and truly loving it is super important, especially in your twenties. You have to learn to value your alone time. There are so many thing we don’t know about ourselves that are only revealed when we take the time to be by ourselves. My goal with this task is to take myself on dates at least once a month.

Learn how to budget

I spent way too much money on useless crap in 2019. Therefore, budgeting is the way to go. I’ve always loved creating budgets and being smart with my money so I want to do this consistently and establish a monthly budget for myself that’s effective and easy. It’s so important to be financially intelligent, especially going into your 20s where you’re bound to make the dumbest purchases of your life. Just saying.

Strengthen your relationships

Friendships, family, boyfriend, girlfriend, whatever the case may be, try your best to strengthen your relationship with those closest to you. And eliminate all the toxic relationships in your life. We’re too old for toxicity.

Final thoughts

I’ve said so much in this post but guys, let’s make 2020 an amazing year! I’ve already claimed prosperity, happiness, and positivity for this year. What are you claiming?

Until next time,

Stay Vibrant & Embrace The Gray
